Disney Animals List: Marsupials

Marsupials. What are they?? Some people don’t really know. So, here’s its definition…

Marsupial— noun:

Any viviparous, non-placental mammal of the order Marsupiala, comprising the opossums, kangaroos, wombats, and bandicoots, the females of most species having a marsupium containing the mammary glands and serving as a receptacle for the young.

Or in other words……

These animals have pouches to grow & protect their young in. There, now we all know!

Anyways….

Here is a complete list of Disney & Pixar Animated Marsupials! We will start with movies all the way in the beginning. There are a few movies I never saw in the early 2000s (I know, it’s crazy) so if there’s animals from them I missed, please comment & tell me! I will not be offended. But on all the other classics and such, I know what I’m doing. 😉 So here we go!

1) Mamma Kangaroo & Joey- Dumbo (1941). Yes, we saw our first Disney Marsupial in this circus classic. It’s quite adorable too! The kangaroo just got her baby from the stork. Pretty cute!

2) Mama Possum & Babies- Bambi (1942). Ok, I know it’s technically called an opossum, but I only found some of these guys under this spelling. So grammar back then lacked a little haha. In Bambi, we meet these cuties hanging upside down in a tree. I love how Bambi reacts too. So fun!

3) Mama Opossum- Song of the South (1946). I almost missed this one! This Mom shows how she carried her babies. She’s also on the ride Splash Mountain.

4) Kanga & Roo – The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977). We finally got to meet Kanga & little Roo. Gotta love these two! It was quite a gap between movies featuring a marsupial. Of course, these two featured in later Pooh movies. This includes The Tigger Movie (2000), Pilglet’s Big Movie (2003), Pooh’s Heffalump Movie (2005), & of course the funniest of all– the NEW Winnie The Pooh (2011). Roo himself was a main character in both The Tigger Movie & Pooh’s Heffalump Movie. Of course, the Tigger Movie was my favorite!

5) Wombats- The Rescuers Down Under (1990). WOW! What a gap! In one of my favorite movies, we see little wombats in the very beginning. Fun fact: this is the ONLY Disney movie that has Wombats in it. Aren’t they cute?!

6) Faloo & Jake- The Rescuers Down Under (1990). These are some kangaroos we see in this movie. Faloo, a female kangaroo in the wild calls Cody to save Marahoote. Later, we see Jake, a male kangaroo who’s been captured by McLeach. I bet that Faloo is Jake’s mate. Or maybe siblings. What do you think??

7) Krebbs- The Rescuers Down Under (1990). This koala is SO FUNNY! He’s clearly an older guy who knows how being captured tends to go. But I love how he makes fun of Frank. “Frank will go as……. a purse. Oh a lovely ladies purse!” ROTFL every time.

8) Lester’s Possum Park- A Goofy Movie (1995). As Goofy & Max go on their road trip, they stop at this place. It’s all about Possums. Singing possums, dancing possums, even possum hats. Just like Max, we weren’t impressed.

9) David Koalabell- Zootopia (2016). David Koalabell is one of the news anchors in Zootopia. Now, some of you are probably thinking, wait there was only a moose & a snow leopard. What Koala is she talking about?! Well, in different countries, Disney had different news anchors. That’s pretty unique! Here are the 4 different ones below:

That’s it, not even 10 marsupial Disney characters. There aren’t even any Tasmanian Devils. What’s up with that Disney?! Hopefully they will give us more soon.

Thanks for reading! These Animated lists are fun to make but take time of course.
