Human Rights vs. Initiative to Execute Gays in CA

This week, I heard whispers of some bad things happening in the state I live in- California. I didn’t get much detail since I was at work during discussions from customers or co-workers. So, this morning, I woke up feeling a little better from my cold. I started to do some research and was appalled at what these whispers were about; the “Initiative to Execute Gays” along with many other headlines. Let’s see this poll in California…..

Here’s the scoop: There’s a lawyer in Huntington Beach, CA, Matthew McLaughlin, who submitted an initiative to the Attorney General’s office last month. Here’s his proposal title: Sodomite Supression Act. Here’s what it would do: It proposes that “gay people ‘be put to death by bullets to the head or any other convenient method.'” This guy is nuts! Luckily, our state is using legal action to supress this ballot. California Acting Against Gay Execution Poll is good in the sense that we are a liberal state, and always have been. I am thankful for the action. The Attorney General, Kamala Harris is way against this poll. She is part of the driving force & does NOT want this ballot to even proceed. “It is my sworn duty to uphold the California and United States Constitutions and to protect the rights of all Californians,” she said. “This proposal not only threatens public safety, it is patently unconstitutional, utterly reprehensible and has no place in a civil society,” said Ms. Harris on Wednesday. A Senator, Ricardo Lara (Democrat) is also wanting to Head Off the Initiative . He said, “The constitutionality of this measure is not debatable. It’s outlandish, unjust and out of line with California values.” It’s good to see that some people have a good head on their shoulders!

According to one of the above articles I read, McLaughlin got all into “God this”, & “God that”, & “Suffer by God’s wrath”. The hate this guy feels towards gays- which stems from his almighty connection to God- is repulsive. I mean, I’m not religious and I never will be. Also, I’m not hating people who are, but THIS is what gives it all a bad name! People like him who are off their rockers & creating public, law initiatives to hurt people, freely. One of his statements said “Seeing that it is better that offenders should die rather than that all of us should be killed by God’s just wrath against us… the people of California wisely command, in the fear of God, that any person who willingly touches another person of the same gender for purposes of sexual gratification be put to death by bullets to the head or by any other convenient method,”. What?! How is this moral?! He may think he has the write to freedom of speech but let’s be real, this is messed up! Furthermore, this initiative has to have 360,000 people sign it to be “passed”. I want to know if there was anyone thinking about signing it. They are just as dammed as Mr. McLaughlin is in my family’s book. He needs to be put in a psycho ward. Seriously.

By the way.. My family & I fully support Gay marriage & the LGBT community. I have aunts that are lesbians and have been together my entire life. We know plenty other people & friends who are gay/lesbian as well. I grew up with it so it doesn’t even phase me. And yes, I feel like what Anne Hathaway says below. It’s not being brave, it just is what it is. I don’t know any different. I love them for who they are and I couldn’t imagine my life any different. I wouldn’t be who I am today without them & my family. I wish more people were feeling that way too. It is hard to see how this hatred is even possible in this day in age.

In conclusion, this guy basically qualifies as racist! Sure it’s a stretch. Think about it: if some white guy was to say “lets execute all the blacks by bullets”, everyone in this country would want his ass dead. It’s pretty close to the same! I know a few people in my town who want to pass a ballot sending McLaughlin to the firing squad! (It sounds bad, but it’s all talk lol) Our state has been open to LGBT’s for a while now. Even before it was passed, it was well known. Look at San Francisco! You cannot tell me that people who lived there didn’t know their city was filled with LGBT’s before the law passed. Right?! That’s just part of the town! It’s not new like technology. It’s always been like that! So please, let’s move on. We got off the racist band wagon a long time ago, so let’s get off this one of hating all gays. No more descrimination!! It’s STUPID!

I know my views on this will never change. I just hope it can open more eyes to people around me. Look at what we’ve become. Look how low we can be. This is basically a war we don’t need to fight. An arguement that shouldn’t even be discussed. You can’t truly hate someone if you don’t even know them. I don’t even understand why people hate gay people! It’s like every love story ever written where the father doesn’t want his daughter with that kid. But in this case, the guy is a girl with a buzz cut. Or boy with a boy. It all points the same direction. You can’t tell me who I can & cannot love! So why should we try to force them? Why should we kill them for it? It’s not worth the blood & pain spilt. We don’t need that on this country’s record as well. Read this quote from a Disney movie & your eyes might open a little more. I’ll tell you the movie it’s from after..

Did you guess it?! This was Simba talking to his daughter Kiara in Lion King 2. Yeah, it works multiple ways. Race, species, color, & even sexuality. Good job Disney. In the end, why does it matter who others love? It’s their life, not the world’s.
